The 2020 Congressional Women’s Softball Game Canceled
WASHINGTON, D.C.—The Congressional Women’s Softball Game Organizing Committee has made the difficult decision of canceling our 2020 game due to ongoing concerns regarding COVID-19. With safety as our top concern, we came to our decision after months of closely monitoring local and federal guidance about preventing the spread of the coronavirus. The health of our fans, players, and volunteers is crucial to our mission.
The annual Congressional Women’s Softball Game has brought together female Members of Congress to take on the women of the Washington, D.C. press corps for over a decade. The game has provided women of Washington the opportunity to unite in one common mission – beating cancer. Since its inception, the CWSG has raised over $1.6 million in total for the Young Survival Coalition, which supports young adults with breast cancer. Our Organizing Committee and our players remain committed to doing whatever we can to raise funds this fall to support the community that YSC serves. We hope our sponsors will be able to still contribute to our important cause, and we will be in touch with them soon to discuss those opportunities.
We are so grateful to our supporters throughout the years. We look forward to next summer when we will be able to safely gather again on Capitol Hill.
“While we are extremely disappointed that our teams won’t be able to safely take the mound this fall to beat cancer, we look forward to seeing our fans at next year’s game,” said Atalie Ebersole, Congressional Women’s Softball Game President. “In the meantime, our Organizing Committee will be working to help raise critical funding for our charity, the Young Survival Coalition, because cancer hasn’t even taken an inning break during this pandemic.”
