Congressional Women’s Softball Game Organizing Committee Announces 10th Annual Game will be on June 20th

Female Members of Congress and the D.C. Press Corp to face-off again on Capitol Hill

Washington, D.C. – On June 20, 2018, the Congressional Women’s Softball Game will again, for the tenth straight year, put partisanship aside to raise awareness about cancer. The game will bring together women members of Congress – Democrats and Republicans from the House and Senate – to take on the women of the Washington, D.C. press corps.
 
The Congressional Women’s Softball Game brings together Washington D.C.’s leaders to raise awareness and critical funds for the 12,000 young women in the United States who will be diagnosed with breast cancer each year. Proceeds from the Congressional Women’s Softball Game will benefit the Young Survival Coalition, the premier organization dedicated to young women with breast cancer.
 
“This year is the tenth Congressional Women’s Softball game, marking a decade of bringing together women from across the aisle in sportsmanship,” said Atalie Ebersole, President and Treasurer of the Congressional Women’s Softball Game. “The annual game has provided women of Washington an opportunity not only to strengthen friendships, but also to unite in one common mission – beating cancer.”
 
"I'm absolutely elated to join my bipartisan colleagues for this, our historic 10th year in taking the diamond to strike out cancer in young women,” said Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz. “I recently celebrated my own 10-year cancer-free anniversary, so I know firsthand that young women can and do get this life-changing diagnosis. And I appreciate what these major annual milestones mean for survivors and all those connected to these life-threatening fights. This is not only a fun and competitive opportunity to raise funds for the Young Survival Coalition, but this annual contest has also done amazing work to raise awareness about the unique issues young women face in their fight against breast cancer. When I helped co-found this event, it was to give power and hope to these young women. But I had no idea the amount of personal joy, meaning and friendships it would bring into my own life this past decade."
 
“This year marks the tenth consecutive year female members from both sides of the aisle have come together for the Congressional Women’s Softball Game to support young women battling breast cancer. I’m excited to be involved in this great event again this year, and I truly believe it demonstrates what we can accomplish when we put our differences aside to rally for a worthy cause,” said Congresswoman Martha Roby.

"It is such a thrill to be part of an event that brings Washington together in support of young women fighting breast cancer. We can't wait to celebrate the 10th anniversary with another win for these amazing survivors -- and the Bad News Babes,” said Emmarie Huetteman.
 
"No matter which team wins the game, the biggest winners are always the breast cancer  survivors; the ones helped by the YSC, the ones who help make the CWSG happen, and of course, all of those survivors who inspire us every day. Oh, and P.S., I know I said, no matter who wins the game, but, to be clear, the press is going to win it,” said Amy Walter.
 
“The Congressional Women’s Softball game is a special tradition that is about so much more than just a game,” said Senator Shelley Moore Capito. “I look forward to taking the field with my teammates and colleagues from both sides of the aisle again this year to raise breast cancer awareness and, of course, beat the press!”

The Congressional Women’s Softball Game will be held on June 20, 2018 at Watkins Recreation Center, 420 12th Street, SE, Washington, DC 20003. Tickets are $10, and they can be purchased prior to the game online or at the gate.
